

Born on June 1, 1949, Juan lived a life rooted in love for his family, pride in his service, and passion for the outdoors. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Otilia Ortegon; his sons, Christopher Ortegon and Juan Ortegon Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Etta Ortegon; grandson John Earl Shelton; and great-grandson Parker Shelton; beloved family members Lacey and Devin Rodriguez, Saphire Rodriguez, Taylor Rodriguez, Jeremiah Rodriguez; his mother, Carlota Flores Ortegon; siblings Emma Martinez, Guadalupe Ortegon Jr., Rogelio Ortegon, Rosa Garcia, Teresa Garcia. He also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews.
Juan was preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Ortegon; his father, Guadalupe Ortegon Sr.; and his brothers, Louie Ortegon and Mike Ortegon.
Juan proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle). After his time in the military, he remained a proud patriot and carried his discipline and strength into all areas of life.
He enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, and watching old western movies. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory and legacy will live on through those who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Juan will be held Monday, September 22, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205, followed by a rosary from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
