Marcelino is preceded in death by his parents Jose Tovar Mendoza, Antonina Leija Mendoza, brothers; Reymondo Leija Mendoza, Federico Leija Mendoza, Domingo Leija Mendoza, Juan Leija Mendora, Joe Leija Mendoza Jr., Francisco Leija Mendoza, sisters; Paula Mendoza Aguilar, Anastacia Mendoza Teneyuaque, Elidia Mendoza Calderon.
Marcelino is survived by his wife Avelina Herrera Mendoza of sixty years, sisters; Guadalupe Mendoza, Agustina Villa, MaryAnn Gaitan, as well as his sons Hector Xavier Mendoza, Sergio Rene Mendoza, grandchildren; Elizabeth Antoninette Cedillo, Michael Ryan Mendoza, Natalie Nicole Mendoza, and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Marcelino was a proud truck driver for over thirty years with the Teamsters Brotherhood, and volunteered for over forty years with the Boys Scouts of America, where he was a proud scoutmaster for troop 358. Marcelino was a dedicated foster grandfather for the Archdiocese of San Antonio and volunteered at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic School, Holy Name Catholic School. He also volunteered for the University of St. May's during the Oyster Bake. As a catholic member of the church, Marcelino also volunteered to carry the pope's chair for John Paul II, on September 13th,1987. Marcelino is and will always be a United States Marine in where he is now guarding heaven's gate as a military police and reporting for duty with his brothers and sister of the 8th Marine Division.
A visitation for Marcelino will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 11:30 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1314 Fair Ave #1, San Antonio, TX 78223. Marcelino Leija Mendoza is being laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 1:00 PM, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
