

Mary Lou was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished family gatherings. Known for her exceptional cooking skills, she made Sundays special with family dinners and ensured friends left with "to go" plates filled with love. Her Commitment to her faith was evident as she attended mass at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church every Sunday and participated in the church choir until she was 99. Mary Lou's involvement extended beyond the pews; she was an active volunteer in various church and civic activities.
Her joy was also found in dancing, a passion she pursued into her later years, celebrating her 100th birthday dancing to mariachi music with her son. Mary Lou's vibrant spirit was recognized in her community, especially at the Palm Heights Center, where she was a top volunteer well into her 90's.
Professionally, Mary Lou contributed to the workforce in credit and collection roles for several retail companies before joining Alamo National Bank and later retiring from M Bank in 1996. Her diligence and expertise were respected by many.
Mary Lou was the salutatorian of her class at Sinton High School in Sinton, Texas, laying a strong foundation for her professional and personal life. She leaves behind a loving family: her daughter Esther C. (Terri) Gonzalez; sons John R. Carrizales (Gloria) and Steven Frank Carrizales; grandchildren Margo Rowland (Don), Laura Alfaro (Marco), John Michael Carrizales (Cassandra), Catherine Carrizales (Jason Galvan), and Stevie Ray Carrizales; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank G. Carrizales, her parents Avelina Jimenez Gonzales and Peter Mihalopoulos, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Mary Lou's life will be celebrated with a viewing and visitation at Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N. Main Ave., San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 11:00am to 11:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00pm, both at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, 907 W. Theo, San Antonio, Texas. She will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30pm the same day.
