Oralia Galán Rodríguez was born on May 6, 1929, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was called home by our Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was 10 weeks shy of her 97th birthday.
Oralia resided in San Antonio for the majority of her life with her beloved late husband, Fernando Rodríguez, to whom she was married for 49 years. She found her greatest happiness in her roles as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was the steadfast heart of many family gatherings.
Her kindness and warmth extended beyond her immediate family; she was a supportive aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, a devoted cousin, and a trusted confidante to her “comadres.” She was affectionately known as “Grandma” by extended family and friends of some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Oralia, a devoted mother, was a constant presence at Ira Ogden Elementary School for all four of her children’s elementary years, spanning 20 years. She made it her mission to get to know each teacher, serve in the PTA, and even served as the PTA treasurer for several of those 20 years. As an accomplished seamstress, Oralia lovingly crafted custom-made clothes and costumes for her children and grandchildren. She also sewed altar linen for Christ the King Catholic Church.
She loved playing bunco, dancing, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She also found joy in discovering new creative hobbies, such as macrame, ceramics, sketching, and other sewing arts.
Oralia is survived by her children, Sylvia (Luis) Morales, Richard Rodríguez, Delia (James) Barrett, and Lydia (Royce) Barker. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Toni Malfer, Elisha Estes, Christopher Barrett, Adam Castillo, Amanda Barrett, and Veronica Barrett; eleven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramón Galán and Faustina Guerrero Galán; her husband, Fernando Rodríguez; her brothers, Alfredo Galán, Ernesto Galán, and Raúl Galán; and her grandson, Paul Morales.
A viewing will be held at Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N Main Ave, San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a rosary beginning at 6:00pm. The funeral procession will depart from Roy Akers the following morning, Monday, March 9, 2026 at 9:30am for a Funeral Mass at Christ The King, 2610 Perez St, San Antonio, Texas at 10:00am.
