My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Richard. It was unusual not to hear from him, prompting me to reach out again, only to discover that his long-time phone number was no longer in service. This led me to search for him, ultimately finding his obituary. The world has truly lost a remarkable human being.
Richard was not just a teacher; he was a mentor during my time at Harlandale High School in the mid-80s. He pushed me to realize my full potential and was an extraordinary educator, person, and, above all, a great friend. Over the past 40 years, we maintained our friendship, often reminiscing about the hilarious moments we shared.
Reading through the memories others have shared about Richard, I am not surprised by the countless lives he positively impacted. His legacy is profound, and I hope he knew just how much he meant to so many. It has been an honor to call Richard my friend.

Richard was an inspiration to all he came in contact with. I looked up to him as a model teacher and a friend. He touched the lives of so many students who adored him. He was a genuine treasure.

Mr. Guerra loved math and he shared it with all his students. I met him through the prefreshman engineering program at St. Mary's University. He will be missed at our campus.

You were my Coach, you were my Mentor, you were my Godfather, and most importantly you were my Father figure. You were there to help push me to be a better version of me and without you I wouldn't be who I am now. I'll miss the car rides after work where we would talk about anything,how your day was, your struggles my struggles. You helped me learn to drive, helped join the swim club and push me to be a Lifeguard which I still do to this day 7 years after. I still remember how honored you were when I asked you to be me my Godfather and I don't regret it at all you were someone I look up to and forever will. Hope you rest easy Richard and I'll make you proud for the rest of my days

Condolences to the family!  I am writing this after not hearing back from Richard last month – sorry for the delay.  I kept in touch with him off and on for over 50 years after we met at Penn.   In addition to being a lifelong friend, Richard was one of the smartest people I ever met (Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics).   We could always pick up even after long stretches of time passed between talks.  Whenever I asked him when he was going to retire, he always said he loved teaching.  I am so glad he found his passion and lived a great life!   You will be missed, brother!

Mr.Guerra changed my persecutive in life and prepared me for the real world. He made my last year of High-school easier and took time out of his office hours to listen when I was having problems at home with family. He was more than just a teacher , he was like a friend I’d known for years even if that wasn’t the case. Everyday I’d look forward to going to his 1st period algebra class for his silly dad jokes , a sweet treat and best of all when he would announce the letters for the answers . A for Apple  , B for Bologne and C for Cat.  Bologne to me was an odd choice to choose for letter B , there’s the word Bus or Bee, but not for Mr. Guerra ! Mr. Guerra always pushed through his days and was always present even though he had his own problems to deal with , he did was he loved and that was teaching his students. He gained the love of many students just for being his sweet and well respected self. I wish I could’ve gone to visited you at school and updated you on how things were going , and the progress I made in life and best of all , my math grades in college. You are very missed and loved by ur students, family , friends, and colleagues I hope u rest well sir.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Guerra’s family.  I was one of many students blessed to be in Mr. Guerra’s classroom at Brackenridge (c/o 2013). It is difficult to quantify how great of an impact Mr. Guerra has had on my life, since it’s impossible for me to imagine what it would have looked like without his constant support and inspiration. I will miss him dearly.

Mr.  Guerra , Touched so many lives deserving and undeserving. I'm Mrs.  Zavala his favorite substitute in southside High School. I would sub on the days he had doctor’s appointment or chemo. I would interrupt him in the morning while he was listening to loud music so that I can be myself and make both of us laugh, he always allowed me to be me.  I wanted to make him laugh so that he wouldn’t feel like his life was hard, but little that I know he was teaching me that my life was like a pigeon, which to him meant simple. (I was making my life more complicated than what it had to be,  ) You’ll always be in my heart.

 The world has truly lost one of its most brilliant minds. Words can’t even describe the way I feel. The last weeks we had together thought me more than I could have learned in a lifetime. My earliest memory I have is of you and me riding your bike to the library and I’ll cherish those moments forever. You had such an impact on everyone you ever came across and I’ve looked up to you in every way my whole life. You’ve been there for me in every way possible even when I didn’t deserve it, and Im happy to have been able to be there for you when it mattered the most. It was an honor and pleasure. Forever in my heart, my favorite uncle, teacher, and person. One of a kind. You’ll truly be missed. Glad you made it to class in time. Till we see eachother again. I love you.

My condolences to the Guerra family. Mr. Guerra was an awesome man and role model! He taught me Calculus and Physics, was my swim coach, and was the sponsor for NHS. He was a knowledgeable man who really cared for others. In everything he did he had the welfare of his students in mind. From getting to school at 5:30 in the morning to prep and drive the bus for swimming to staying after and tutoring a bunch of students to coming in on the weekend to fix the school, Mr. Guerra was a model of selflessness and service. My condolences to the family.  He was my math teacher my freshman year at Brackenridge 2001. He gave me my college recommendations. He was an awesome person and a great teacher.  Definitely going to miss his talks we had.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Guerra. His impact on my life and the lives of so many others cannot be overstated. His dedication to his students and his belief in our potential was what made him not just a great teacher, but also a remarkable person.

Even almost a decade after I left his classroom, he continued to reach out, offering encouragement and support. Our annual meetings were a cherished tradition, and his genuine interest in my life and well-being was a testament to his incredible character. His commitment to his students went beyond the classroom, and his advocacy and care will forever be a part of who I am. I'm sure many can say the same. His absence will be profoundly felt, and while we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the indelible mark he left on our lives. 

Guerra’s spirit and dedication will live on through the countless lives he touched.

Mr. Guerra was such a wonderful person/teacher. He was always willing to go the extra mile for all our students. He will be greatly missed.

My Condolences to the family. Mr. Guerra was a teacher i often thought of. He taught me i wasn’t bad at math. He made me feel smart. He would take our picture when we were seniors at graduation and it was a privilege to be on his wall in his classroom. He touched and changed many lives. Best calculus teacher ever.

Richard was a fellow faculty member at Brackenridge High School. He was a very kind person who was always willing to help others, particularly his students. Richard was one of  the most dedicated teachers that I ever worked with. He will always be remembered for going above and beyond to help his students achieve success. It is hard to put into words everything that Mr Guerra means to me and so many others. But the underlying feeling was always love. Love in its truest form as passion and care for what he did and those he taught beyond just the classroom lessons. Whether that was putting your graduation picture on his wall or contacting you just to see how life was going. It was because of this display of dedication that I kept motivated to pursue the career I am in and allowed me so many opportunities. For this, I like many others are eternally grateful and will always keep his lessons in our hearts.

Mr. Guerra was not only an amazing teacher, mentor, and coach, he was also an amazing person. He was my NHS advisor, my calculus teacher, and my head coach and i grew to love his everyday enthusiasm. He knew exactly how to make you feel special and would motivate you to want to be the best version of yourself every day. I've known him since I was a sophomore in high-school and am glad I knew him and kept up with him all these years.

Coach Guerra  had such great expectations of our team and believed we could go all the way and win that tournament. We played not for ourselves or for the school but for Coach. That tournament, that plaque was for him. He deserved this and so much more. Thank you for everything you did as a coach, teacher, and friend.

 Mr. Guerra was the kindest teacher and possibly soul I’ve ever met. He was always smiling and just so positive and supportive, always willing to lend a listening ear! He made math understandable and interesting, that’s saying a lot from a terrible math student like myself. He was passionate, enthusiastic and incredibly patient! To his family, I hope you all know how influential he was to so many throughout his entire teaching career… he made a huge difference in so many students’ lives! My deepest condolences to his family! Deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. I remember him a smart, funny and calm  and respectful teacher. Many of us would come to his classroom when it wasn’t our period, I met my HS sweetheart in his class. Very grateful for the chance he gave us to be ourselves.

Mr. Guerra was one of those teachers who makes a lasting impact on you for the rest of your life. Aside from being an amazing math teacher and a great swim coach, he was someone who was not afraid to be close with you and to encourage you to learn and to grow. I only wish that during my time at Brackenridge HS I had taken more classes with him. Alongside teachers like Mr. Davis, Mr. Guerra will always be a part of the person I grew up to become today and I cannot thank him enough for being as amazing as he was.

Mr Guerra was always one of my favorite teachers he never raised his voice EVER to get his point across to us students. I still remember coming back to brack the year after I graduated and mr Guerra remembered me and even had our pictures on the wall in his classroom. I have never felt love from a teacher until I met this great man. May his beautiful soul rest in peace! He really was one of a kind rest in peace Mr Guerra we love you ❤️

He was more than a teacher. I always thought of him as an uncle. He cared about all of his students. He was trust-worthy and his laugh was comforting. His kindness is contagious and I will never forget how great he was.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I worked with him for the past 4 years and he was always so cheerful, friendly, and a perfect teacher to the students. He was my teaching neighbor, so I talked to him quite a lot. He told me a lot about the suffering with the chemo and the radiation, but it amazed me how much he loved to teach.
