Robbie Nell Helmle, born February 16, 1932 in Uvalde, Texas passed peacefully on May 2, 2023 at the age of 91. Her son Sam was by her side.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Austin B. Taylor and Frankie Bob Taylor; beloved husband, Kenneth Helmle; and sister, Lerline Helmle.
Robbie is survived by her children, Carolyn Price, Samuel Helmle and wife Joyce, and Aaron Helmle and wife Mary; grandchildren, Michael Price, Shawna Baker and husband Curtis, Ethan West Helmle, and Shavawn Everitt and husband Matt; great grandchildren, Talon Price, Bailey Baker and Ainsley Baker; and sisters, Jane Mahan and Ann Gillespie.
As a girl Robbie and her family lived on a farm for a time. With 3 sisters and no brothers, the outdoor chores fell to Robbie, feeding the animals and caring for the vegetable garden. When she married she didn't know how to cook or keep house, so her mother-in-law taught her those skills. Robbie was a homemaker when her children were small. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, growing roses and, whenever possible, she kept a vegetable garden. Even into her eighties she enjoyed fresh home grown tomatoes, onions and Swiss chard from her backyard garden.
Robbie enjoyed sewing clothes for herself and the entire family and taught her daughter, granddaughters and great granddaughters to sew. She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed taking the Troop on campouts. When her children were older, she went to work with her husband Kenneth at their carpet and floorcovering store. In that capacity she helped with the books, with sales and often had the laborious task of hand-sewing bindings on room-sized rugs. In the 1970s Robbie and Kenneth bought a small cabin at Medina Lake and, as a family project, remodeled it into a 3 bedroom 2 bath split level home with custom rock work and terracing. Her son Sam built or remodeled multiple homes for his family, and Robbie was often an active participant with painting walls, mixing mortar, and helping any way she could.
Robbie enjoyed travel. Her first trip out of Texas and first ride in an airplane was to North Carolina when her daughter gave birth to Robbie's first grandchild, Michael. She traveled with her youngest son Aaron on several trips including Alaska and Disney's Epcot in Florida. Her biggest trip was to Australia where she rode a camel and rode in a hot air balloon.
Robbie was a passionate artist for over 30 years creating many paintings both big and small which she generously shared with family and friends. She was an active participant in events and trips with the San Antonio Oasis Program, where she volunteered for over 25 years.
