Rodolfo “Rudy” L. Garcia Sr., passed away on January 5, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Gloria Garcia. They shared 57 years of marriage together, since June 12, 1966. They were high school sweethearts before that since they met that faithful night at a dance on May 6th in 1962. Their love is so real, pure & everlasting.
Born on April 7, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas, Rudy was the son of Margarito & Maria Lopez Garcia. He graduated from St. Mary’s University with his bachelor’s degree in chemistry & went on to the University of Texas at San Antonio where he got his master’s in business administration. He was employed at Kelly Air force base as a proud chemist, laboratory branch chief, and operations manager. Rudy was a technical trainer at St. Phillips college & Palo Alto, teaching safety and quality & management training courses. He even did taxes after that prior to and after his retirement. He was a hard working man to say the least.
Rudy would like to attend mass at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed being creative and making a lot of home improvement projects as well as other projects he would find on YouTube or Pinterest. He liked to keep up with what was going on in the world & stay up to date on things. He had an interest in politics, movies & of course, sports. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, UTSA & the Texas Longhorns. You would always catch him watching the game being completely involved in every play. We’re hoping the Cowboys win the super bowl this year in his honor.
We will always remember Rudy for his happy go lucky demeanor & warm smile he would greet you with. He truly had a heart of gold & was one of the nicest people you would ever know. Willing and able to help anyone with anything they need, especially his family. He loved to travel & explore new things. He also had an interest in photography, as he was at one time a photographer for his high school, Fox Tech. He was a modeled husband, adoring father and an amazing grandfather. A family man, through & through. He is a friend to all & someone everyone loved being around. Rudy was patient, sentimental, caring & helpful.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria, his brother Margarito and sister Teresa, children Rudy Jr., Barbara, and Robert, granddaughters Missy and Elysia, and his granddog Ellie. He was predeceased by his parents, in-laws, half brother Vincent, brothers & sisters in laws, Beatrice, Richard, Eva, Mario and Gilbert as well as daughter in law Rebecca in heaven. He did everything he could to be here with his family, taking good care of his health the best he could. Although it was a sudden and unexpected accident that brought him to God, he lived to be 80 years old & lived a life full of happiness & lots of love he both gave & received.
The viewing service will be open to the public at 5 pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N Main Ave. The rosary will follow at 7 pm. There will be a funeral mass at 10 am on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Dr. We will have a reception to follow after the conclusion of the mass at St. Luke’s from 11 - 1 pm.
