September 14, 1931 – October 25,2021
San Antonio, Texas
Peacefully and surrounded by her family at her home, Zulema C. Muñiz, went to be with Our Lord on Monday, October 25th, 2021 at the age of 90 years. She was born on September 14th, 1931 in Converse, Texas to Jose and Antonia Flores Campa. Zulema married her one and only love, Ernest R. Muñiz on June 26, 1955 at San Fernando Cathedral. They had 5 beautiful children.
Zulema was a very spiritual woman with deep roots in her faith and devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the Catholic Church. Zulema and her husband, Ernest, along with their family voluntarily gave their time running a fiesta booth every year and working in the parish’s kitchen, cooking and serving meals once a month on Sundays, for over 20 years, to raise funds for the San Fernando CCD program which was run by the nuns back in the days. She, also, offered her home to hold family prayer meetings and several masses celebrated by Archbishop Patrick Flores and Father Virgilio Elizondo. Last year, Zulema and Ernest received the 2020 “Lumen Gentium Award” from San Fernando Cathedral. Both have been parishioners for over 50 years. She was a faithful and dedicated parishioner, who served the community of San Fernando with great love and devotion. She was the definition of a good and faithful steward, giving her time, talent and treasure.
She loved all her plants, especially her roses. Everyone always complimented her beautiful flowers planted throughout her front yard. Zulema loved watching her novela and playing loteria. She enjoyed her yearly trips to The Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle then heading over to have some fun at the beach at South Padre Island. She loved sitting in the water, on her beach lounger, enjoying the waves and people watching. Zulema was a fulltime homemaker, teacher and nurse, always making her family’s needs a priority. She also contributed to the success of her family’s business, handling all the bookkeeping.
Zulema had the most beautiful, contagious smile which she will always be remembered by. She will live in our hearts for eternity.
She is preceded in death by her father Jose Campa, mother Antonia Flores Campa, stepmother Georgina P. Campa, brothers Felipe and Ricardo F. Campa, son Ernest Muñiz Jr. and grandson Michael Ernest Muñiz.
