Andrew John Kain, 74, of Hoschton, Georgia, passed away on December 1, 2017 surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert F. Kain and Frances Kuhn Kain. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Polly, and their two children, Andrew John Kain II and Amy Kain Spivey (John). Also survived by his beloved grandchildren Walker and Hailey Kain, and Molly and John Andrew (Jack) Spivey. Other survivors include his brothers, Jerrol Kain (Bonnie) of Flat Rock, North Carolina, Edward Kain (Susan) of Candler, North Carolina, and Thomas Kain of Smyrna, Tennessee.
He was born in Miami, Florida on February 22, 1943 and thus began a life-long love affair with the ocean. He grew up in his family’s home town of Middletown, New York, where he attended the Catholic Arch Diocese of N.Y. St. Joseph’s School and Middletown High School. In 1965, he graduated from Babson Institute in Wellesley, Massachusetts and married the love of his life, Polly Sanford, in the same year.
Andy was a successful insurance executive and began his business career as a salesman with the American Mutual Insurance Company in Boston. Future opportunities brought the Kains to Atlanta in 1970, which became their home for 47 years. From 1996 until his retirement in 2009, he was the Vice President of the Willis Corroon Aerospace office in Atlanta and led aviation teams in marketing and servicing efforts of major airports and airlines.
He was actively devoted to children’s issues and served as Board President of CHRIS180 (formerly CHRIS Homes). He received the organization’s Atlanta Board Member of the Year Award for his dedication and volunteer accomplishments. Additionally, Andy served 6 years in the armed services and was recognized with several awards as a Chief Fire Direction Control expert in the National Guard.
Although Andy accomplished much during the course of his career, his proudest and happiest moments were those spent in the company of his wife, children, and grandchildren. He cherished family beach trips and gatherings, ocean fishing and island hopping, travel adventures with friends, tending his gardens and birds, and all things golf. His gentleman ways, integrity, commitment to his family, and sense of humor were all qualities that defined his life and made him a terrific husband, father, grandfather and friend. In recent years, Andy lived through two cancer battles. His quiet dignity, positive attitude, love of life, and sense of humor always endured. He inspired all who knew him with his optimism and gratitude.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in the Moore Chapel, 3180 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30305.
