

She was born to Joe Sample Siler and Floy Higdon Siler on March 5th, 1927 in Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Haines graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta, GA in 1945. She met her husband, Gilbert A. Haines, Jr. while he was a student at Georgia Tech, and member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and Navy ROTC. They were married in October 1945 in the early post WWII era. During their 56 years of marriage, she supported him through his 30-year career as an aircraft engineer at Lockheed Aircraft Corp. in Marietta, GA, and through his 20 years of service as a U.S Navy reservist, including 2 years together in Newport, Rhode Island during the Korean Conflict. A longtime resident of Sandy Springs, she served her husband and four sons as a homemaker/domestic engineer. She loved to travel the U.S. with her husband in their RV for over 40 years. She is survived by her four sons: Christopher Haines of Barnesville, GA, Gilbert Haines of Saint Simons, GA, Samuel Haines of Roswell, GA, and Thomas Haines of Parkton, MA, as well as eight grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, as well as three sisters, Dorothy Sawyer, Katherine Bullard, and Betty Gould. She will be remembered by her family and friends as spirited and energetic.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, March 1st, at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Leslie Watkins.
