Berry Frank Merritt, known as Frank, passed away July 8, 2010, due to heart related illnesses. Frank was born November 5, 1921 in Cumming, GA. He moved to Atlanta when he was 10 years old. In 1941, he married Mary Jacqueline Campbell. They were married 68 years.
In 1942, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served 3 years in Europe as a Radio Operator in the Signal Corp Battalion. In 1947, he joined the Atlanta Fire Department. Frank retired as a Captain in 1977. He also was a residential Contractor, who built approximately 350 homes in Atlanta. In 1992, he went to work at Home Depot, and worked there for 16 years.
Besides being survived by his wife, Mary, he is also survived by 3 children, Nancy Gammage, wife of Charles (Doc) Gammage, Tommy Merritt, husband of Frankie Merritt, and Don Merritt, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
We will truly miss our great father.
The funeral service is Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 2:00 at Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Home, which is located at
136 Mt. Vernon Hwy. Visitation is 12:00 to 2:00 Saturday.
