Betty was born in Stokesdale, NC, on August 23, 1932, the daughter of the late Percy Marion Williams, Sr. and Allie Mae Simpson Williams. She was the youngest of five children, and the only girl. As a young child, Betty enjoyed singing in the church choir and being a farm girl in the country. She loved sitting by the tobacco fields, reading all her favorite books while her family worked. Needless to say, they loved spoiling her! She was an exceptional student and salutatorian of her graduating class of Summerfield High School.
After high school, she worked at The Jewel Box in Greensboro, NC, where she met her beloved husband, Harry. He was smitten by her beauty when he went to purchase jewelry for his girlfriend! The rest is history. They married on January 29, 1954, and were married for 60 years until his death. Along with raising four beautiful children, Betty worked as a Secretary for the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years, before retiring in 1988.
She and Harry enjoyed weekend trips to Lake Norman, traveling, gardening, crafting, home remodeling, and always enjoying quality time with their grandchildren. Betty immensely enjoyed playing Scrabble with her children and later, grandchildren. She also loved walking and took long walks well into her 80s.
After raising their family in Greensboro, Betty and Harry retired to Wilmington, NC, in 1994, where they lived until moving to Marietta, GA, in 2006. In 2019, Betty moved to Berman Commons Assisted Living & Memory Care in Dunwoody, GA, where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Milby Creekmuir, in 2014, and three brothers, Percy Marion Williams, Jr., Kirby Carlyle Williams, and Leon Gray Williams. She is survived by her children, William Simpson Creekmuir (Frances) of Sandy Springs, GA, Harry Wilson Creekmuir (Brandie) of Hurdle Mills, NC, twin daughters Sandra Creekmuir Knaebel (Carl) of Theodore, AL, and Susan Creekmuir Patterson of Roswell, GA; brother Bernard Lewis “Barney” Williams of Dunwoody, GA; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
