

Claire Elizabeth (Bobbie) Oglesby Dawkins of Dunwoody, Ga., passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2013. She was born August 28, 1928, in Atlanta to Robert B. Oglesby and Clara Beatrice Fincher Oglesby. Bobbie attended Atlanta Girls High and Georgia State University, where she met her future husband, Roy Gwen Dawkins while on her way to school. They were married at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Grant Park and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. During her life, Bobbie worked at several businesses as bookkeeper while raising her four children. She was a longtime member of Peachtree Christian Church where she sang in the choir and taught their Sunday School. She also volunteered as a Scout leader. Bobbie was a devoted, generous and thoughtful person dedicating her time to her family, neighbors and the Friends of the Dunwoody Library. She was always there for her children in every way. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Frances Harris, Virginia Knight and Billie Walker and her brothers Eugene and Jack Oglesby. She is survived by her husband, Roy Dawkins, daughters, Tomie Dugas (Ray) of Auburn, Ala., Laura Roadcap (Jack) of Flowery Branch, Ga. and Anne Vanderleest (Dirk) of Brandon, Miss. and son, Pete Dawkins (Sherry) of Dunwoody, Ga., eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be held at Sandy Springs Chapel on August 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. Inurnment will be held at Arlington Memorial Park on August 15 at 10 a.m. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel with a reception following the service. H. Thomas Money will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice.
