Claude was born in Fort Rucker, Alabama, the son of an Air Force Colonel who was stationed there at the time. His father’s career meant frequent moves, but he always called Atlanta his home. Claude served in the U.S. Army and was wounded during his service in Vietnam. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Claude was an avid Georgia Bulldog enthusiast and looked forward to the fall of each year, signaling the return of the college football season.
Following graduation, Claude began his lifelong career in the property and casualty insurance industry with the Insurance Company of North America (INA). After several years at INA, he joined the Cincinnati Insurance Company as regional manager, representing the company to independent agencies across the state. He later served in a similar capacity with Berkshire Hathaway. He was also a partner in an independent insurance agency in Gainesville, Georgia. Claude was recognized for his expertise in property and casualty insurance, and after retirement, he provided consulting services to several independent insurance agents throughout Georgia.
In 2010, Claude and his wife of 54 years, Nancy, moved permanently from Sandy Springs to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. A kind, caring, and generous man, Claude spent his years there in service to several organizations, as well as to friends, family, and neighbors. He will be missed by many.
Claude is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Norman Horne; his sister, Cathy Horne Thayer (Victor); nieces, Lori Norman Adams and Elizabeth Thayer Wrenholt (Timothy); nephew, Kenneth Edward Norman (Julie); great-nieces, Hazel and Scarlett Wrenholt, and Caitlyn Adams; great-nephews, Kenneth Edward Norman II (Sarah) and Cameron Adams; and numerous cousins, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. He is predeceased by his three sons, Claude Allyn Horne, Jeffrey Hammond Horne, and Brian Daniel Horne.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jeffrey's Voice Leukemia Research Fund at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
