

Edward W. Gilleland, age 89, a longtime resident of Sandy Springs was born March 1, 1923 in Dawsonville, Georgia. Mr. Gilliland served as a Navy Seabee during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and in New Guinea. A master electrician, he was a member of IBEW, Local 613 for 62 years. A faithful and longtime member of First Baptist Church of Sandy Springs, he had served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher and as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a lifelong tentholder at Holbrook Campground. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jane C. Gilleland; daughter Mary Jane Cagle of Buford; sons, Mark Edward Gilleland and Paul L. Gilleland ,both of Sandy Springs; grandchildren, Jennifer Shirley of Cumming, Roger Gilleland of Woodstock, Christopher Gilleland of Anchorage, AL, Maj. Greg Gilleland of Ohio; sisters, Mary Watkins and Aothline Wilkie of Ballground, Helen Townsley of Canton; brothers Roger B. Gilleland, Walton A. Gilleland, Gene Gilleland all of Alpharetta, great grandchildren Matthew Gilleland, Jr., Adair Gilleland, Zach Shirley and Cole Gilleland, nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Holbrook Campground, 2415 Holbrook Campground Rd., Alpharetta, Ga. 30004. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 5, 2012 at 2 p.m., placed in state at 1 p.m., at Macedonia United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Holbrook Campground Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
