Geneva S. McKinley, age 89, of Atlanta GA, daughter of the late Theodore and Minnie Schauffler, died July 31, 2012. She was born in West Plains, MO and grew up in Parsons, KS. Shortly after attending junior college, Geneva moved to the big city of Kansas City, Missouri where she applied for and got a highly covetable position as airline “hostess” with TWA. Living on the The Plaza with a group of other hostesses, she met her future husband, Robert McKinley, when he came to pick up Geneva’s roommate for a blind date.
Robert and Geneva raised their 3 children in Kansas City until 1962, when a job promotion moved the family to Lake Minnetonka, Minn. The family also lived in Miami, Florida during the early 70’s. While in Kansas City, Geneva was a member of the Musettes Auxilary for the Kansas City Museum as well as active in the PTA.
Geneva was an avid reader, cross word enthusiast, and intelligent conversationalist. She had a classic flare for fashion and home decorating as well as being known as a great cook. Her greatest love, however, was for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Geneva was predeceased by her son, Scott McKinley. She is survived by her daughter, Janis Jeffries and son-in-law, Barry Jeffries of Atlanta, GA; son Robert McKinley, Jr. of Santa Fe, NM; sister, Veda Ahern of Roanoke, VA; daughter-in law, Donna McKinley, grandchildren, Allison Bautista, Andrew Young, Jr., and Michael McKinley; great-grandchildren, Orion and Cali Bautista; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Geneva’s remains will be interred in Kansas City at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
