

Born on March 27, 1931, in Reichenberg, Germany, Gerd was the only child of Adolf Erich Max Garkisch and Paula Anna Garkisch.
Following World War II, he and his mother immigrated to Brazil. On March 28, 1970, Gerd married Eleonora S. Garkisch in southern Brazil, and together they welcomed their beloved daughter, Anna.
Gerd had a long career as a psychologist, dedicating much of his life to serving others in the United States. He retired in 2002 from the State of Florida Department of Corrections, leaving a legacy of compassion and professionalism.
Known for his calm demeanor and dry, witty sense of humor, Gerd had a distinct ability to connect with people. His passion for history and storytelling brought his childhood experiences to life for his friends and family. A polyglot, he spoke seven languages—reflecting the intriguing and complex story of his life. An avid traveler, Gerd explored the world with enthusiasm, always eager to learn and share his experiences.
Gerd is survived by his wife, Eleonora S. Garkisch; his daughter, Anna Brackin; his son-in-law, Brent Brackin; and his cherished granddaughters, Julia and Olivia Brackin. He was predeceased by his parents, Erich and Paula Garkisch.
A graveside service will be held at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd., Largo, FL 33774, on October 24 at 2 p.m.
