He finished at the top of his High School Class at age 16 and went to work the next day for First National Bank of Columbus until he was drafted into the Army. In 1951, he married his sweetheart Sue, and one week later was sent to serve in Korea. On the way over he was pulled from the group and because of his banking experience, he was sent to Japan to handle army payroll, and saved from the front lines. Upon returning to his bride 18 months later, he enrolled at Auburn University where he graduated first in his class and did it all in just 2.5 years while holding down a full-time job. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Fraternities. Upon graduation he worked for General Motors Co., but quickly took a job with IBM where he spent the rest of his career, taking him to Atlanta, back to Columbus, Tampa, Newark, Manhattan, and finally returning him to Atlanta in 1970.
He took an early retirement at age 60 and spent the next 33 years caring for his family, advising his 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren in the things that matter in life. He and Sue also were blessed to travel the world during the retirement years and most enjoyed their trip to the Holy Land. He was always available to help, lead, and guide his family. Henry was an active member of Sandy Springs UMC and served in many leadership roles. He was also a member of Gideons International.
