

John Gemmill, 81, of Atlanta, GA, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 in the company of his loving family. Born on June 29, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, John was the first child of Scottish immigrants John Love Gemmill and Ellen (Davidson) Gemmill. John proudly served his country in the US Navy Reserves during the Korean War. John became a father to two daughters, Cheryl Ellen Gemmill and Lynne Norma Gemmill with his first wife Norma Furneaux. He and his family lived in New York until 1970 when he returned to Detroit to begin a career in aluminum casting and distribution. He married Natalie (Ryan) Gemmill in 1978 with whom he had a son, Ryan Ian Gemmill, and relocated to Atlanta where he spent decades as an entrepreneur. He worked with multiple domestic and international companies to establish operations in Atlanta. He employed thousands over the course of his long career. John was a patron of the arts and an active member of his community, particularly as a 22-year resident in Huntcliff. He is survived by his wife Natalie Gemmill, his brother Clive Gemmill (Diane); his daughters Cheryl Gemmill (Pat Kirchhoff) and Lynne Gemmill and his son Ryan Gemmill (Ainsley); grandchildren Brandon and Ian Koenigsnecht, James and Katharine Kirchhoff and John Gemmill. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 12:30pm at Arlington Cemetery, 201 Mount Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, followed by a reception at Food 101, 4969 Roswell Rd, #200, Atlanta, GA 30342.
