

Kent Harper, 62, passed away on Thursday April 26th after bravely fighting cancer for many months. Kent was an Atlanta native and grew up in Sandy Springs. He graduated from St. Pius X and attended Georgia State University before joining and serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. When he returned he worked for the First National Bank of Atlanta/Wachovia as a Manger and Officer in different areas of bank operations before joining the US Postal Service as a Transportation Supervisor. Kent enjoyed volunteering and was active as a coach in youth baseball and football with the Pleasant Hill Athletic Association. He also worked as a softball league umpire for several years. In 1996, Kent volunteered for the Olympics and proudly represented Atlanta at the boating and water sports venue at Lake Lanier Islands.
He is the son of the late John J. Harper and the late Margaret Harper. Kent is survived by his wife Gladys, his children Michael and Katherine, his brother and sister-in-law Al and Sandra Harper as well as his beloved step mother Naomi Harper. Kent was a wonderful loving partner and father and he will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dekalb Humane Society or to NAMI Northside Atlanta, PO Box 723483 Atlanta, GA 31139. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday May 5 at 1 pm at the Sandy Springs Chapel located at 136 Mt. Vernon Highway in Sandy Springs. The family will receive friends starting at 12:30.
