Born May 22,1928 in Atlanta to Mr. James Leroy Nolen and Mrs. Fay McCord Nolen, Polly grew up in Atlanta where her father owned the Nolen, Richardson & Co. grocery store in Hills Park. She told stories of her childhood where her father and family helped neighbors in financial need during war rationing in WWII. A fond memory of Polly’s was of her standing on a trash can as a child to see Clark Gable go into the Fox Theater at the opening of Gone With the Wind.
In 1952 Polly married Walter Leon Sprouse of Union S.C. She worked at Ft. McPherson doing secretarial work. Raising a family of four children was her primary focus during her adult life, but when her husband Walter began his Snap-on-Tool dealership, Polly helped with the business finance and accounting aspects. Together they raised a family and were able to experience travel to the Caribbean and Hawaii.
Marie Nolen Sprouse was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lowell, sister Evelyn, daughters Lisa Suzanne(infant) and Sharon. She is survived by her husband Walter, son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Barbara of Douglasville, GA; son and daughter-in-law Philip and Deborah of Canton, GA; son and daughter-in-law Brent and Vickie of Canyon, TX; grandchildren Heather, Joshua, Kenneth, Jared, Rachel and great granddaughter Ellie Grace.
