She was born on June 12, 1931 in Mobile, Alabama to Agnes Ewald Broun and Charles Deas Broun, Sr.
Minnie was a 1949 graduate of Bishop Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, Alabama where she enjoyed working on the school newspaper and was editor during her Senior year. She was a very proud Mobile native and loved telling the stories of her school days, of her riding on the Mardi Gras floats, and of the adventures she and her 7 siblings had growing up.
During her employment at Brookley Air Force Base she met her beloved husband Thomas G. Lose, Sr. Minnie and Tommy were married the following year in St. Joseph’s Chapel at Springhill College, her family’s parish church for generations. Both deeply devout, their children have often said the greatest gift they gave them was having a strong foundation of faith.
Minnie and Tommy enjoyed 51 years of marriage until his death in 2004. Together they had 7 children, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren who were a great source of pride and loved so dearly; their faces lit up and their eyes twinkled just at the mention of their names. In recent years upon viewing photos or FaceTime calls with her great-grandchildren, Minnie often smiled and “unbiasedly” said, “I have the most beautiful great-grandchildren…and grandchildren…and children!” Truly she cherished them all.
After moving their family from Mobile to Huntsville, Alabama in 1969, Minnie enjoyed working in the cafeteria at Grissom High School for over 20 years, retiring as cafeteria manager in 1992. There she managed the oversight and logistics of providing daily lunches with multiple menu choices for a school population of over 2800 students and greatly enjoyed getting to know the teachers and the fellow classmates of her children. It was always a comfort to us knowing she was so close by during high school.
Minnie loved spending time with her family, playing card games, working puzzles, and keeping up with current news. She especially loved all of her "grand puppies” too. Titus and Hector brought her great joy in her final years. For the past 21 years, she lived in Atlanta with her daughter and family, Renée, Tony, and Mary Catherine. Minnie enjoyed the roles she took on in their home over the years: multiple daily walks with the dogs, carpool duty when Mary Catherine was young, and running errands for the household. She felt needed; she absolutely was needed and loved dearly.
Minnie is survived by her children, Alicia Lose Brooke (Ken), Thomas Lose, Jr. (Meg), Dr. Edward Lose (Betsy), Ann Lose Latham (Randy), John Lose, Sr., Renée Lose Adams (Tony), and Michael Lose (Gigi); grandchildren, Margaret Ann Brooke Smith (Matt), Sarah Beth Brooke Spraberry (Corey), Thomas Lose, lIl (Michelle), Ryan Lose (Kimmy), David Lose, Lindsey Lose, Anna Caulk, Joseph Latham (Laura), John Lose, Jr. (Ashley), Gina Lose Benn (Sam), Tony Lose, Mary Catherine Adams, Courtney Lose Irvin (James), Ashley Lose, Bailey Lose Campbell (Will), Atley Troyer (Kate); great-grandchildren, Savannah Smith, Josie Smith, Mary Nell Spraberry, Thomas Spraberry, Gatlin Lose, Reagan Lose, River Lose, Levi Benn, Hannah Benn, Evelyn Campbell, Carter Ann Irvin, Rowan Troyer; and is also survived by her beloved sister, Mary Dorothy Broun Joseph.
