Roy W. Olson

Roy William Olson, 81, of Sandy Springs, GA died Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Mr. Olson was born and raised near Duluth, MN. He graduated from Esko High School. Following high school, Mr. Olson went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota. After working for IBM for thirty-two years, he retired in 1991. Mr. Olson was a longtime member of the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. He was well known in Sandy Springs as the Voice of the North Springs Spartans. His home at Lake Lanier was a favorite retreat for Mr. Olson and his family. Mr. Olson will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Olson; sons, Chris (Kelly) Olson of Sandy Springs, Erik (Suzanne) Olson of Sandy Springs, GA and Billy Olson of Athens, GA; and five (5) grandchildren The family will receive friends at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, 85 Mt Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Dr. Ken Ray will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741 or Sandy Springs United Methodist Church.
