

Born on March 23, 1932, in Sanford, Florida, Roy was a devoted husband and father. He shared over 69 years of marriage with his wife, Bobbie J Reel.
Roy dedicated thirty-two years of service to the Florida National Guard, where he held various assignments. His distinguished military career culminated in his role as Command Sergeant Major for Company B, 3d Special Forces Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Throughout his service, he acted as a Senior Noncommissioned Officer and the primary enlisted advisor to numerous commanders.
Beyond his military contributions, Roy retired from a successful career with the CSX Railroad, where he worked for over 35 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Reel; his father, Milton D Reel; his sister, Shirley Statton; and his son, Roy James Reel II. Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie J Reel; his daughter, Lori J Reel (Tony Mills); his son, Russell J Reel (Susan); and his grandson, Christopher J Reel.
While his presence will be profoundly missed, the values of love, kindness, hard work and curiosity that he instilled in his family and friends will continue.
A graveside service will take place on June 23, 2026 at 10:00 am at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories. The family requests the honor of your presence at a reception after the funeral. Everyone is welcome to gather at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories (4207 E Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610) directly after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Dementia Society of America.
