

Thelma Elizabeth (Hixson) Henry, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2015, in Atlanta, GA. Thelma was born March 11, 1927, in Hixson, Tennessee. She graduated with honors from Hixson High School in 1945 and in 2004 was named to the Hixson High School Hall of Fame. She attended the University of Miami at Coral Gables and Howe Flight School in Miami. As a child, Thelma had three wishes. 1. Learn to fly an airplane. 2. Marry a handsome young man and have a family. 3. Travel and see the world. Fortunately, she accomplished all three. She received her private pilot's license in 1946 at age 19; married her high school sweetheart, George Franklin Henry on August 21, 1946; and traveled to 28 countries. George, her husband of over 69 years, three sons, one daughter and five grandchildren survive her: Gary Henry (Suzanne) of Charlottesville, VA, Keith Henry (Dianne) of Waleska, GA, David Henry of Atlanta, GA, and Amy Van Hook (James) of Portland, OR. Grandchildren include Matt Henry, John Henry, Keegan Van Hook, Ainsley Van Hook and Amber Henry. Visitation will be held on Monday 12/28/15 from 5pm to 8pm at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt Vernon Hwy NW. The memorial service is Tuesday 12/29/15 at 11am at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 471 Mt Vernon Hwy NE, with a reception immediately following. A graveside burial will be held Wednesday, 12/30/15 at 1pm at Hixson Cemetery, 5290 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN.
