

Rev. Bruce Alexander Calder a World War II decorated veteran left this earth peacefully. He resided in Saraland for 52 years. He was born in Corbin, Kentucky and lived there for 43 years. Rev. Calder forfeited an opportunity to pitch for the St. Louis Cardinals to serve in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater from the beginning of World War II until it ended. After the war he continued to play Triple A Baseball in the Mountain League. Rev. Calder ministered in five Southern States, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Kentucky. He served at Saraland United Methodist Church, Deer Park United Methodist Church, Millry United Methodist Church, Epworth United Methodist Church, and Fruitdale United Methodist Church. He was employed by the L&N Railroad (CSX) for 42 years. He retired early in order to take care of his mother in law Minnie Haskew Owens. He also enjoyed farming, gardening, and Braves Baseball, woodworking, and Kentucky Wildcats Basketball. Rev. Calder was preceded in death by his wife Willie T. Owens Calder, his parents Dallas G. and Catherine Gregory Calder, his brother Wayne Calder, his sister Corrine Calder Dale and his son Robert Durand “Randy” Calder. He is survived by a daughter Jackie Brown of Saraland, AL, two sons Ronnie Calder of Saraland, AL and Larry Calder of Saraland, AL, four grandchildren David (Angela) Brown, Daniel (Kimberly) Brown, Kimberly (Brad) Petersen, and Alexander Calder, five great grandchildren Torrey Brown, Adam Brown, Dylan Brown, Jenna Brown, and Foxx Petersen, two brothers Burlyn (Nina) Calder of Corbin, KY and Robert "Bob" Calder of Irvine KY, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Saraland United Methodist Church on Tuesday June 23, 2015 at 10AM. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Monday June 22, 2015 from 5 until 8PM. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
