

Fritz Edward “Big Daddy” Danzey, 74, a native and resident of Saraland, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on February 25, 2015, surround by his family. His 9 year battle with cancer is now over and Big Daddy is now made whole again. Born October 4, 1940, in Jackson, Alabama, he was the eldest son of the late Bennie Danzey and the late Grace Lawler Danzey. Mr. Danzey was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara “Bobbie” Williams Danzey. The two met at a Mobile icon, Delchamps, and were married in 1964. Mr. Danzey retired after working for over 25 in the chemical and oil industry. Upon his retirement he began working in the automotive industry with stops at McConnell, UJ and Grady Automotive companies. Mr. Danzey was a member of the first graduating class of Satsuma High School in 1958, a charter member and 2nd Vice President of the Satsuma Lions Club, a member of the Saraland-Satsuma Education Council, and Saraland Lions Club. A civic-minded individual, Mr. Danzey create the Courtyard of Gator Legacy at his alma mater and was instrumental in many fundraising efforts on behalf of Satsuma High School. In honor of service to the city of Saraland, Mr. Danzey was issued a proclamation by the Mayor on the occasion of his 74th birthday. Alabama football and golf were his passions. Mr. Danzey is survived by his only child and daughter, Dr. Leigh Ann Danzey-Bussell, his son in law Timothy Eugene Bussell and his granddaughter and Doodlebug, Sophie Grace Bussell, the light of his life. He is also survived by his twin siblings, Sandra Danzey (Thomas) Shoemaker and Connor Ray Danzey, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A military graveside service honoring this amazing life will be held Saturday, February 28 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Dino Danzey, nephew of Mr. Danzey will officiate the service. Pallbearers include Tim Bussell, Dino Danzey, Scottie Pearson, Ernie Sewell, Daniel Shoemaker and Thomas Shoemaker. Honorary Pallbearers are Connor Ray Danzey, Hubert Black, Joe Bruister, Wayne (Skeet) Lister and James Shewmake. Taps performed by Randy Davis.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 28 from 11:30-1:30. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements made through Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, Alabama. In lieu of flowers a tribute gift can be made to the Mitchell Cancer Center in honor of Mr. Danzey.
