

Hilda was born on June 14, 1941, in Choctaw County, AL. She attended Sweet Water Elementary/High School and graduated from Choctaw County High School. Hilda also received a Secretarial Science degree from University of Southern Mississippi, and completed Alabama Banking School, along with several other courses from the University of South Alabama.
Before retiring in 2004 from Southwest Bank in McIntosh as a secretary to the president of the bank for 20 years, Hilda worked in various careers over the years. These include working for Dr. Ernest DeBakey in Mobile, taught High School Typing/ Office Practice and Government/Economics and Junior High Classes at McIntosh Christian Academy, and office manager for Dr. Eddie Henson in McIntosh.
Hilda was a member of McIntosh United Methodist Church and served in many capacities including church pianist for more than 30 years, directing church choir, served in the Methodist denomination on the Blue Lake Walk to Emmaus, and member of the church Softball team. Hilda also served in the community by helping form the McIntosh Rescue Squad, where she served as a volunteer medic for a long length of time. She was also a member of the Industrial Development Board for the Town of McIntosh and served for 30 years.
Hilda had a special way with hospitality and cooking and was known for her Italian Cream Cake. She also had a tender heart for babies and young children. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hilda devoted her life to God, to church, and to family.
She is preceded in death by her husband; George Gray Woodyard Jr., parents; James B. and Rosa B. Meador Bush, sisters; Hazel B. Leichliter, and Frances B. Prater, brothers; James B. Bush Jr., and Henry Kenneth Bush.
Hilda is survived by her children; Amy Carol Woodyard, Connie Angela (Steven) Guice, her sister; Donna B. Hannah, sister-in-law; Opal D. Bush, brother-in-law; Charlie Prater, grandchildren; Carol Ann Bryant (Will), Courtney Rae Haynie (John), great grandchildren; Sara Catherine Bryant, Hannah Claire Bryant, and Davis Ray Bryant, special friends; Penny Burrow, Angie Daugherty, and many other family and friends that will miss her deeply.
A visitation for Hilda will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 1:30pm to the 2pm funeral hour at Calvert Methodist Church in Calvert, AL. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to McIntosh United Methodist Church, Calvert Methodist Church, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the Lustgarten Foundation, and any other Pancreatic Cancer organizations in Hilda’s memory.
