Howard Eugene Powell – an 83 year-old lifelong resident of Semmes, Alabama passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Mr. Powell retired from the local painters’ union after many years of service. He was a longtime member of Wilmer Baptist Church and coached football and baseball at Semmes Park for a number of years.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Ann Powell; parents, Webster and Mavis Powell; and sisters, Barbara Morris and Janet Hearn. He is survived by his children, Sharon Smith (Vince), Tony Powell, and David Powell (Danielle); siblings, Betty Kelly (Toby), Patsy Willard, Jackie Stagner (Joe), Stephen Powell (Cheryl), and Becky Nance (Mike); eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. The family would like to offer Mr. Powell’s sitters, Valeria Norwood and Brenda Slater, as well as the staff of Alabama Hospice Care for all of their excellent professional care and compassionate service.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 11 a.m. with his grandson, Pastor Chip Smith, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
