

James H. Kimbrell— A well known educator and resident of Chickasaw, Al., passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014. James was born in Fayette County, Alabama Aug, 1, 1928. He was preceded in death by parents T.C. and Ruby R. Kimbrell, one brother Gene Kimbrell. He moved to Chickasaw with his family after his father began to build ships at Chickasaw Ship Yard during WWII. He was an educator with 42 years of service. James Graduated from Murphy High School in 1946, he then earned his B.S. degree from Florence State Teachers College (University of North Alabama), his Masters from The University of Alabama, Double A from The University of Southern Mississippi. He went on to be a teaching principal in Lauderdale County Al, he then taught for 5 years at Eight Mile School, 5 years as principal of Snug Harbor School and 30 years as principal of Saraland Elementary School. James retired in 1990. James loved to travel and work in his garden, growing all kinds of different vegetables. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Chickasaw and a member of the Chickasaw Library Board for many years. He is survived by his wife of 63 ½ years, Marjorie Kimbrell, daughter, Pamela (Robert) Brantley, son, Dr. Steve (Kay) Kimbrell, grandchildren, Michael (Tricia) Schertzinger, Brooke Brantley(Matt) Grissom, Alicia Kimbrell and Steven Kimbrell, Jr., step-grandson, Scott (Christy) Brantley, and 5 Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb.9, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. The family would like to thank his cousin Betty Joyce and husband Harold Mathis and sons Ken and Rusty, and the staff of Crowne Healthcare on Navco Road for their compassionate and loving care.
