

Mr. John Gordon Andrews, Sr., age 77, passed away at his home on Monday, April 20,2020. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jacquelyn A. Andrews, his father, Maurice B. (Andy) Andrews, his mother, Bessie G. Andrews, his daughter, Sandra Lynn Andrews, his son, Anthony M. (Tony) Andrews, his daughter-in-law, Stephanie R. Andrews; and his brother-in-law, William (Billy) Gantt.
His career as a Police Officer began with the City of Prichard. He then joined the City of Chickasaw where he served as Patrolman, a member of the S.W.A.T Team, and a Volunteer Fireman. After transferring to the City of Mobile in 1977, he served as a Patrolman. For more than 15 years, John partolled with the Motorcycle Division, retiring in 2000 from the Warrants Division. During his years with the City of Mobile, he also served with the Mobile County Mounted Unit, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Posse, and he directed and coordinated motorcycle escorts for Radney Funeral Home. Mr. Andrews proudly served his community for a total of 33 years as an Officer of the Law.
He enlisted in the US Navy in 1960 where he served active duty on the USS Kearsarge and the USS Lexington for a total of three and-a-half years. He had two and-a-half years inactive duty in the Naval Reserve. He joined the US National Guard in 1974 and served the next 17 years in the 1133 Medical Company (MED AIR AMB). He had specialty training in Aircraft and Helicopter Repair. He earned the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7). He was a proud veteran of the United States of America. Mr. Andrews graduated with an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Faulkner State Jr. College in 1977. He was a long time member of Wilson Avenue Baptist Church and he loved his church family dearly.
He is survived by his children, Madonna Kay Andrews, John G. Andrews, Jr., Regina A. Pierce (Colby), and daughter-in-law Marsha A. Dollard: his sister, Virginia A.Gantt, two brothers, James F. Andrews, and William B. Andrews, (Henri Jean); seven grandchildren, Jarod W. Pierce(Kyndall), Allie P. Elmore(Blake), Megan A. Bennett(Dalton), Makenzie S. Andrews, Courtney E. Andrews, Brooklyn R. Andrews,
Jesse Andrews, and Natacia.
There will a limited visitation on Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 11:00am - 1:00pm, due to COVID-19 restrictions, services are limited to 10 designated visitors at a time. Please respectfully follow these guidelines. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Saraland, AL.
