Robert Lamar "Bobby" Smith Jr.

Robert Lamar “Bobby” Smith, Jr. - age 80, of Chunchula, AL, a successful Mobile County businessman and landowner, passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 20, 2012. He was born in Chunchula July 5, 1931, and graduated from Citronelle High School. Mr. Smith owned and operated Mobile Tractor Company in Semmes, AL, later owned and operated Smith’s Nursery, which provided azaleas to retail outlets throughout the gulf coast, and was an active timber grower. He enjoyed viewing and sustaining wildlife. Mr. Smith was a member of Georgetown-Chunchula United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member and benefactor. He was preceded by his parents, Robert Lamar and Mattie Mae Smith of Chunchula; brother, Dr. John Allen Smith also of Chunchula; and aunt, Hattie Geneva Davis. Mr. Smith is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary F. Smith; children, Robert Lamar (Sharon) Smith, III of Chunchula, Joan S. (James) Malone of Chunchula, and Marilyn (Danny Ray) Lott of Wilmer, AL; grandchildren: Robert Lamar Smith IV of Mobile, Somer (Dean) Alford of Wilmer, Tiffany Chappell of Gulf Shores, AL, Kimberly (Scott) Lofton of Mt. Vernon, AL, Mary Ann Bourne of Citronelle, AL, and Adam (Jenny) Bourne of Chickasaw, AL; ten great-grandchildren: Blake, Jay David, Hunter, Avery, Mary B., Elle, Tyler, Bailey, Brandon, and Brady; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service hour.
