Robert Ray Waite Sr., age 96, of Columbiana, Alabama passed away on September 11, 2022. Robert was born on August 23, 1926, in Cullomberg, Alabama, to Joseph and Lottie Worsham Waite. Robert was the fifth of twelve children. He was a member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Satsuma for over fifty years. Robert retired from Scott Paper Company known today as Kimberly Clarke after twenty-seven years. Prior to working at the papermill he worked out of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local in Mobile, Al. For over fifty years Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Chickasaw AL. After his retirement he enjoyed several years of working on various projects at his church. In his younger days he was a baseball pitcher with a great arm. He loved baseball (St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves) throughout his life. He was an avid fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football and loved watching all college teams. He loved being outdoors, enjoyed gardening as well as fishing and hunting with family and friends. Robert will be remembered for a being a devoted husband as well as a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Neil Stewart Waite, the love of his life for their marriage of over sixty-seven years.
Robert will forever be remembered by his son, Robert Ray Waite, Jr and his wife, Kathleen Stafford Waite; two grandchildren, Robby Waite and Christian Roberson (Justin); one great-grandson ,Stafford Lee Roberson; one brother, Foy Waite; along with many nephews, nieces and other extended family members and friends.
A visitation for Robert will be held Friday, September 16, 2022, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home, 1200 Industrial Pkwy, Saraland, AL 36571. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM that day at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens on Celeste Road in Saraland.
Honoring Robert as pallbearers will be Robby Waite (Pittsburg, PA), Justin Roberson (Sterret, AL), David Waite and Justin Plant (Cullomburg, AL), Clint Havard (Millry, AL) Jason Pierce (Saraland, AL) and honorary pallbearer Steve Stafford (Saraland, AL).
