Sarah P. Harrison (nee Herring) – Age 88, passed peacefully at her home on December 14, 2023. Sarah was born on August 14, 1935, to parents, Ada and W.D. Herring, in St. Stephens, AL, who preceded her in death. Sarah moved to Chunchula, AL from St. Stephens shortly after graduating from Leroy High School, Class of 1952. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Justin “Doc” Rudolph Kidd and RC Harrison.
She is survived by her beloved son, Terry W. (Natalie Black) Harrison, stepchildren, Glynda Grandquest, Shalaine (Bubba) Scott, and Charles “Bo” Harrison, sister, Bobbie Wooley, nieces, Charlene (Pete) Goldman, Catherine Herring, Mary Elizabeth Spence, Brenda Sayer, and Debbie Neighbors, step grandchildren, Nelda Kidd, Tami Bryant and Buddy Kidd, and numerous close friends, and other relatives. She worked at Sun-Ray Food Store in Satsuma for numerous years until the birth of her son at which time she happily and proudly decided that being home with him was the only place she wanted to be, so she became a full-time homemaker and stay at home mom, but that didn’t mean she didn’t “work”, she absolutely loved canning fresh fruits and vegetables, was known to sew a frock here and there, babysit a kid or two, all while keeping a pristine home for her family. Sarah was known to have an open door to all that were near and dear to her, she always had a fresh pot of coffee and the aroma of something absolutely scrumptious always filled her kitchen.
She loved company because, to quote her, she loved to talk. She never missed an opportunity to speak her mind, if Sarah thought it, Sarah said it, and because she also loved to argue, another quote of hers, she didn’t hesitate to let you know how the cow ate the cabbage, because she was just telling it like it is… as she would say, you may not believe me but I promise it’s the truth, another one of the soon to be infamous Sarah-ISMS!!
You never had to question how she felt about you because when she loved you, she let you know and when she didn’t, she let you know. Music could be heard filling the air from time to time, Hank Williams, Sr., Freddy Fender, and Patsy Cline of course and even though she couldn’t tell you exactly how they did it, she sure loved celebrating the victories secured by the Alabama Crimson Tide’s Football Team.
They broke the mold with her, she is often imitated but NEVER duplicated. She was a hardworking, hard loving and hard hating woman, there won’t ever be another one like her, she was the best of the best, sass, and all…...if ya know, then ya know. The world is definitely a little bit darker without her in it, and we will never be the same. Healing and comfort were not possible on earth, so when the Lord called her home, she had to go…… “SHE SAW THE LIGHT, NO MORE DARKNESS, NO MORE NIGHT…” I would bet anyone a nickel that she hasn’t wasted any time finding Ole Hank Williams, Sr. up there just so they could chew the fat. In the words of the late, great Sarah Harrison, “Might as well, can’t dance” … until we meet again, sweet lady… We love you.
