

Sidney Ray Butler, 59 was born July 27, 1962, in Mobile, Alabama and was called to be with the Lord on August 4, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Sidney managed Butler’s Chevron, owned Butler’s Tire and Service Center, was a supervisor at BAE Systems Southeast Shipyard, and was a supervisor at AUSTAL Shipyard. He has contributed to the concept for the Saraland School System in 2000, supported it during its formation and has continued to support it. While Sidney served as chairman for the street and drainage over (sixty) streets have been resurfaced. He has stood alone fighting for the rights of Saraland’s citizens against special interest groups and continued to fight for the rights of all our citizens. Sidney strongly believed in the support of our Senior Citizens, Fire and Police Departments, Parks and Recreation, Animal’s Shelter and all functions associated with them. He served on the Saraland City Council for eight years, the planning commission for four years and had over one hounded hours of training from the Alabama League of Municipalities. Sidney was the third person in Alabama to be recognized by the National League of Cities with a Bronze Level in Leadership Training. He continued to search for ways to increase jobs, encourage smart growth for Saraland, and protect the quality of life.
Sidney was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Sidney enjoyed watching his Alabama Football. He had a genuine love for drag racing and would build his own cars. Traveling to the Smokey Mountains and visiting the Biloxi Beaches were some of Sidney’s favorite things to do. Above all he loved and adored his beloved wife Debby. Spending quality time with his family was always time treasured.
Sidney was preceded in death by his father; Curtis William Butler.
Left to cherish Sidney’s wonderful memories will be his wife of thirty-three years, Debra “Debby” Ann Harrison Butler; mother, Estelle Peeks Butler; three children: Mark Evans, Jessica Butler-Squires and husband Matt, Tess Henderson and husband Corey; three brothers: Terry Butler and wife Wendy, Charles Butler and wife Diane, James Butler and wife Marilyn; one grandchild, Brayden Henderson; along with extended family members and numerous wonderful friends.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 13, 2021 in the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, Alabama with Chaplain Terry Wigley officiating.
The family will be receiving guests for visitation on Friday, August 13, 2021 in the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home, from 1:00 PM until time of service.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the City of Saraland for all of the uplifting support through the years.
