Wilmer Luther Adams, 81, a longtime resident of Satsuma, Alabama affectionately known by close friends and family members as “Sonny” passed away Sunday morning June 12, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents: Luther Adams and Georgia Ezell McClendon; his beloved wife, Louise “Sis” Adams; three children: David Adams, Colleen Adams and Stephen Hergenrodger; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hergenrodger; three siblings: Barbara Stevens (Jim), Henry “Tommy” Smith, Jr. and Audrey Smith.
Left to cherish Sonny’s wonderful memories are his son, Wayne Adams (Judy); four stepsons: Ronald Hergenrodger (Barbara), Les Hergenrodger (Candye), Daniel Hergenrodger and Larry Hergenrodger (Marie); siblings Judy Helton (Larry), Ronnie Smith (Joy) and Aubrey Smith; fourteen grandchildren along with many extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Sonny was a loving husband, a devoted father and a hardworking man. He spent the early years of his career as a tugboat Captain for Brown and Root Inc. having helped build both the “Dolly Parton” bridge and the Dauphin Island Bridge. Later in life he was able to slow down a bit and enjoyed nothing more than a good hunting or fishing trip or watching a good ole western.
In his earlier years he attended First Baptist Church of Theodore where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
We will be celebrating Sonny’s life on June 15th at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on 158, visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens on Celeste Road at 12:00. The family is asking in lieu of flower to please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Research Hospital stjudes@org.
