Ben proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He spent his time in the military repairing and maintaining aircrafts, putting to use his knowledge of mechanics. After his service, he worked for the New York City sanitation Department, where he became like family, as he did with most people he met.
Ben was a man of many passions—a talented drummer, an avid hunter and fisherman, and someone who fully immersed himself in any hobby he picked up. His favorite pastime was bow hunting, and he often spent hours alone in the woods, where he felt most at peace. He also loved target practice at home, where his steady hand and focus made him truly gifted. After retiring, he enjoyed life surrounded by the people that brought him joy, using his cooking skills to bring everyone together.
Those who knew Ben will remember his charisma and unapologetic sense of humor—he had a gift for making people laugh and lighting up the room with positive energy. In more recent years, he found companionship in his beloved dog, Fritz, who remains a loyal reminder of his warmth and love.
He is survived by his daughters, Emma Palazzolo, 30, and Grace Palazzolo, 28, his granddaughter Isabelle, and his siblings Francine, Yolanda, Celeste, Steve, Salvatore, and Paul. He is now rests peacefully in heaven with his mother, Rosa Palazzolo. He will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A service to honor Ben’s life will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery.
