

Buenaventura "Lula" Flores , age 100, died on July 18, 2020. She was born in Corozal, Puerto Rico on July 14, 1920 to Marcelino and Dionisia (Vazquez Sanchez) Nieves of Spain. She is preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings, and husband Eladio Flores, of Cuba.
At 23, she moved to New York City where she worked as a Registered Nurse for 26 years. She worked in the Emergency Room at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai and was the charge nurse for her floor at Brooklyn Hospital Center. She married Eladio in 1950, and together, they raised their daughter Maira in Brooklyn, NY.
In 1980, they moved to Miami, where she volunteered at Bon Secours Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for ten years. Upon her husband’s passing in 1991, she moved to Sarasota to live with her daughter Maira, son-in-law Albert (deceased), and her 4 grandchildren. In Sarasota, she helped care for her 4 grandchildren and was an active member of The Senior Friendship Center.
Presently, she resided in Tampa where she spent her days sewing, reading and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter Maira, granddaughters Melissa Jesse (Nate), Kristina Reeves (Brian), Rachel Baraga (Brian), grandson Andrew, and five great grandchildren - Violet (10), Jack (8), Mia (8), Kaitlyn (6), and Benjamin (3).
