

The only child of R.J. and Mildred Free, Nona was born in Albany, GA on October 10, 1947. She graduated from Albany High School in 1965. She went on to pursue a degree in education from Valdosta State University where she was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi. She completed her studies at Georgia Southwestern State University. She lived and worked in Albany, GA where she met and married G. Michael Moran, a U.S. Navy Pilot temporarily based in her hometown. The two wed on November 18, 1972, and enjoyed 48 years of marriage together.
Nona worked as a teacher at public and private institutions for a few years before dedicating herself to her family as a full-time wife and mother. She was a member of West Bradenton Baptist Church and participated in many other service organizations within the community. She loved traveling and spending time with her friends & family, and being “Nina” to her adoring grandchildren.
Nona is survived by her husband, G. Michael Moran, daughter and son-in-law Brian and Kelly Beukema, son and daughter-in-law Doug and Molly Moran, and her beloved grandchildren Banks (13), Hudson (11), Ella Rose (9) and Bear (11); cousins, nieces/nephews, and many other family members and dear friends.
Nona is preceded in death by her parents, R.J. and Mildred Free.
A small graveside service will be held on Friday, September 10 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241. Pastor Sam Rainer of West Bradenton Baptist Church will be officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Toale Brothers Funeral Home.
