David Gorin passed away peacefully at home from pancreatic and liver cancer on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at age 78. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was predeceased by his parents, Frances (Frumie) Greenberg Gorin and Isadore Gorin and his sister Judy Sacks. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan, and sons Jesse Nathan and Daniel Eli Gorin.
David is a graduate of City College of New York (BS), American University (MBA), and Baltimore Hebrew University (MJS). He held leadership positions as CEO of the Eastern Seaboard Region of United Synagogues of America, CEO of the Washington DC office of American Jewish Congress, Jewish desk director for the People for Ford presidential campaign, President/CEO of the American National Metric Council, President/CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association, and President/CEO of the Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, before starting his own consulting company in 2002, serving the outdoor recreation industry. In 2016, David was inducted into the RV and Manufactured Housing Hall of Fame in Elkhart IN.
Between raising two sons and leading national organizations, David opened one of the early Play It Again Sports stores that sold new and used athletic equipment.
In 2018, David and Susan moved, fulltime, from McLean VA to Longboat Key FL, and then to Sarasota FL where they became involved in community service and added to the deep friendships they already cherished. David continued consulting and also became active as a board member and co-president of Temple Beth Israel on Longboat Key.
On the light side, David never missed an in-person or Covid-required Zoom poker game with friends, or a Dodgers baseball game no matter what time they played (mostly late at night on the west coast). He and his father attended the last home game of the Brooklyn Dodgers when he was young.
David was an honest, passionate, hardworking, humble, and loyal person. He had new ideas to share and acted on many of them. When he asked Susan to marry him, he told her he wanted their lives to be an adventure. That goal and many others were accomplished.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 14 at 1:30 pm on Longboat Key at Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Road, followed by 3:30 pm burial and a reception at Palm Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue in Sarasota.
