Dina Scotti, age 76, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at her home after a 14 year battle with cancer. Dina was born July 20, 1945 in Palermo, Sicily to the late Frank and Carmela Grigoli.
Dina relocated to the United States of America with her parents and younger brother, Angelo Grigoli, in 1961. She would later become a U.S. Citizen in the 90’s. She attended high school for her senior year where she learned to speak English by helping an Italian language teacher teach her native tongue. She meet her future husband, Frank Scotti, at a Fourth of July party just a few months after arriving in the states. The two would marry in 1966 and eventually have two children, Frankie and Carmela, while living in Queens, New York. In 1977 the family moved to Sarasota Florida and many years later had a third child, Robert. Initially a house wife, Dina decided to go back to work in 1988. She was employed by AAA of Sarasota and retired after nearly thirty years.
Dina was passionate about her family and took every opportunity to have everyone at her house, where she and her cooking were at the center of the festivities. She took great joy in making the special dishes requested of her over and over again such as Arancini and the Sicilian Specialty, Spitini. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, where she and her family would display her many decorations both inside and outside of her home. On sunny days Dina could be found out by the pool, tending to her many plants and flowers. When the weather kept her inside she would watch shopping channels like QVC, where she bought many gifts for herself and her family. Her other hobbies included reading, bowling, and collecting asian home decor. No matter how she was feeling, her family remembers her for always saying the simply phrase, “But I’m okay.”
Dina is survived by her loving husband, Frank Scotti; three children Frankie, Carmela and Robert Scotti; a granddaughter, Sabrina Scotti; a brother Angelo Grigoli; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank & Carmela Grigoli.
