Born on December 29, 1953, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Ivan Rostov and Henrietta Golato. A 1975 graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Iouri dedicated much of his professional life to journalism and broadcasting, both in Russia and the United States.
In 1991, he began hosting an 8pm edition of the Vesti program. In the spring of 1993, he became a correspondent for Vesti in the United States. In 1997, he transitioned from journalism to finance, working as a broker in New York after stepping away from his role as a Russian TV anchor in the U.S.
Later, he took on the role of head of the news department at WMNB Broadcasting Corporation in New Jersey, where he served the Russian-speaking community with dedication and integrity.
He was widely recognized and deeply respected for his contributions to journalism in Russia. “Smart, honest, unbending, and at the same time very kind and charming person.”, said a friend. “Yes, he was a journalist of the highest class, of the old school of journalist who replaced him, who are more reminiscent of biased propagandists serving the political preferences of the leadership. I always listened to Iouri Rostov with pleasure, his natural, honest, unobtrusive coverage of events inspired people to believe in the objectivity of their presentation, allowing people to draw their own conclusions and evaluate what was happening. Blessed Memory to this modest, remarkable Man and Master, “said another friend.
Outside of his professional life, Iouri enjoyed fishing and was an active member of a local fishing club. He also had a passion for skiing and painting.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Igor Rostov. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Natalia Rostova; daughters, Sofie Rostova and Natalia Rostova; grandchildren, Ivan, Liza, Kate, and Marco; and his sister, Natalia Rostova.
