

Jean Nanette Almony Wujnovich, 98, formerly of Leisure City, Florida, passed away on July 25, 2024, after a short illness in Sarasota. In 2022, Jean moved from Leisure City to Sarasota to live at Angels Senior Living with her son, Sam Wujnovich.
Jean was a lifelong artist who captured the world’s beauty in oil. She saw paintings in clouds. She nurtured animals and children. She could clear a dance floor and rarely used a recipe for her full table. She sported a jaunty hat, favored red lipstick and dresses with a spray of Chanel No.5.
She was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Calvin Stewart Almony and Elma Jane Ness Almony, the eldest of seven children.
Always an adventurer, she left her small town after high school to work as a typist for the FBI during WWII, putting herself through National Art School in Washington, DC. graduating in 1948. At twenty-three, she was hired to run recreation centers in occupied Germany, where she met her future husband, SSgt Nickola Wujnovich in Landsberg.
She was a dedicated art teacher who taught a lifetime in Homestead, Florida at Sacred Heart School, Dade County Adult Education, Meta-Therapy Drug Rehabilitation, Dade County Parks and Recreation, and numerous other places, retiring at 81 years of age
At 61, after teaching for decades, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Barry University, augmenting her teaching certificate. Her paintings are loved and their beauty graces hundreds of families and community member’s walls.
She is survived by her six children, Milena (Quill), Sam, Lisa, Nicolette (Wujnovich-Hardy), Michelle, and Michael; nine grandchildren: Zachary, Danielle, Rebecca, Allison, Bera, Shane, Cheyenne, Alexandra, Milan, and nine great grandchildren: Asha, Liam, Zea, Seamus, Declan, Scarlett, Aidan, Riley, and Keegan; siblings, Elma, Robert and Randy.
She was a devoted member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church.
A funeral service for Jean will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Boniface Episcopal Church, 5615 Midnight Pass Rd, Sarasota, FL 34242. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 PM at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232. A reception will follow the burial from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232.
