Julius, cherished and beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was born in Cook County Illinois on November 15, 1918 as the 4th of 5 children of Elsie (Katz) and George Stone both Polish immigrants who fled Russian Jewish oppression. His siblings all preceded him in death. He studied music and piano at the University of Minnesota where he played competitive tennis. He went to medical school at Minnesota and completed advanced training in dermatology at Stanford University. He was a board certified Dermatologist.
Dr Stone was drafted into the Uniformed Services of the United States and assigned to the United States Public Health Service for service during and after WWII. This assignment occurred because of his expertise in infectious diseases and the large number of returning service members needing care for these diseases. Dr Stone left the USPHS at the rank of Captain and established a dermatology practice in Macomb County Michigan in the mid 1950’s until his retirement the year 2000 after more than 45 years of community service in which he cared for thousands of families.
His love of education resulted in his long-term association with Wayne State University Department of Dermatology as a Associate Professor. In 1985 he edited a textbook of allergy and immunology for Dermatologists that was a mainstay for early immunology care delivered by dermatologists in the care of patients across the United States. This work resulted in the formation of the American Dermatologic Society of Allergy and Immunology which fostered rapid learning for Dermatologists in the areas of allergy and immunology.
His lifelong love of music resulted in the composition of multiple pieces of classical music that were eventually trademarked and played for public consumption in Southeast Florida.
Julius loved visiting and sharing time with his family. Every visit over the years was concluded with his thanking each of them for remembering him with their love, compassion and time.
He is survived by his devoted wife Judith, his son Richard (Jenni) Stone MD, daughter in law Norma Stone, grandchildren Elizabeth, Jonathan, Benjamin, Aaron, Rebecca and Daniel Stone, Valerie and Bradley Hayes. And multiple great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn (Clark), son David and daughter Rhoda.
Internment and funeral service will be held at 10AM on Tuesday August 24th at the Sarasota National Veterans Cemetery. 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota Fl. 34241.
