1939-2023
Ludmila Kochutina was born in 1939 in Central Russia. Her father died in the Second World War, and she lived with her mother, Valentina. Ludmila attended a secondary school, and a music school where she played violin. A cum laude graduate of both programs, Ludmila was accepted as a medical student at the First Institute of Medicine in Leningrad (currently St. Petersburg), from which she also graduated cum laude. Ludmila met her future husband, (late) Leonid Kochutin, while at medical school. When they met, Leonid was a student at the Academy for the Arts named after V. Mukhina. Ludmila and Leonid got married after graduation and moved to Sverdlovsk (currently Yekaterinburg) where Ludmila practiced medicine and developed an interest in clinical research while working at VOSKHITO (later renamed SNIITO) and the Ural Research Institute for Trauma and Orthopedics. She went on to receive two Doctor of Medical Science degrees, register several inventions, publish many research articles, lead a research and diagnostic laboratory, and serve as a Professor of Pathologic Anatomy at the Ural State Medical Institute. Ludmila raised two children and enjoyed spending time with her three granddaughters. Her surviving family miss and love Ludmila forever.
