Marilyn was born in Racine, WI to Clarence and Helen Underwood happily joining her only brother Thomas. She had a full life and unknowingly met her future husband through Tom as a young girl. Emer was a boy who lived around the corner -often hanging out with Tom. Years later Marilyn and Emer dated in college at U.W.- Madison and were married on June 11, 1960 and had four children. David (Ann) Schaefer, Suzanne (Paul) Jahnke, Stephen (Debbi) Schaefer, and Sarah (John) DiVall. These marriages provided grandchildren who she adored including: Heidi (Gage) Arndt, Heather (Michael) Heiberger, Hallie (fiancé Kyle Tranel), Elizabeth (Aaron) Jermier, Christina (Chris) Streff, Matthew (Hilary) Jahnke, Thomas ( Melissa) Jahnke, Sarah ( Zach) Bernaden, Nelson DiVall, Katherine DiVall, Davis DiVall. Her grandchildren have blessed her with 13 great grandchildren who provide much joy.
Mimi enjoyed her life which led them from Racine to Three Lakes, WI and Sarasota, Florida where they enjoyed many gatherings with countless friends. Days in Racine were filled with tennis matches, Geraghty Estates friends, walks with her dogs, running children to countless activities, making baskets, downhill skiing, playing bridge, reading, travel and involvement in many organizations. She was quite pleased to be inducted into the SC Johnson Fitness Hall of Fame and earned a state tennis title in doubles.
Marilyn fought hard in her battle with Parkinson Disease and lived well for many years in spite of this often saying “I might have Parkinson’s but Parkinson’s doesn’t have me.” Mimi will be dearly missed by family and friends. We are grateful for the long life she had and the memories we are left with. Thank you to the dedicated staff at Arden Courts and Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota for treating Mimi as family in her final years. The family would also like to thank Forget Me Not Ministries.
A private burial will be held in Three Lakes, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation.
