Michael Robert Thompson, 78, of Bradenton, Florida passed away on October 18, 2013.
Mike was the loving husband of Kathleen Ann Thompson and father to Linda Thompson and Kathleen Foster; stepfather to Kim Yermak, Kevin (Wiphaporn) Yermak and Ken (JoAnne) Yermak; loving grandpa to Spencer Foster, Kelly Foster, Keith Yermak, Kris Yermak, Hayden Yermak and Mikenna Yermak and uncle to Theresa, Brian and Sandi.
Mike was born in Minot, North Dakota to Hazel and Frank Thompson. His family moved to Seattle when he was a child and where he attended Holy Family School. Upon graduation from Seattle Prep, Mike attended Seattle University. He also had two masters’ degrees from the University of Oklahoma and University of Alabama. Mike joined the U.S. Army upon graduation from Seattle University. As an Airborne Ranger, he served in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star and Air Medal. He retired after 20 years of service as a Lt. Colonel. He then worked for LTV and AM General as Director of Engineering. Upon retirement from AM General, he moved to Bradenton, Florida.
Mike was an avid golfer and an engaging storyteller, and will be missed by all who loved him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Elton Black Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Rd., Highland, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 1:30pm at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan with full military honors.
