Nancy was born in Chicago, Illinois to Henry and Josephine Hentz on July 8, 1952. She went to Niles West High School graduating in 1970 and then earned a degree at Northwestern University. She worked her entire career as a teacher and speech pathologist for children with disabilities.
She met and married David Freund in Chicago and together they moved to Sarasota in 1991. Shortly after moving, Nancy gave birth to a set of twins, Sara and Steven. She raised a beautiful family and was very involved in her children’s school Out-of-Door Academy. She enjoyed 38 years of marriage with David and together they spent lots of time enjoying sunsets and floating in the Gulf.
There were many things that brought her joy in this life—hosting dinner parties, cooking beautiful holiday meals, traveling across the globe to India, Africa, and Australia, rafting down the Colorado River, collecting art during her travels, swimming laps early in the morning, and spending time with Billy, her little lion look-a-like Cavachon puppy.
She is survived by her husband, David Freund; daughter, Sara Freund and husband Jordan Greenberg; son, Steven Freund and partner Anyssa Hining; sisters Mary Ellen Boesen and Terese Smith; and brother, Barry Hentz. She was a second mother to Mark Freund and partner Conni Ipsen; Michael Freund and wife Holly; and three grandchildren Jacob, Justin, and Susan Freund. She is preceded by her parents Henry and Josephine Hentz and Jason Freund.
A memorial will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Temple Beth Israel on Longboat Key.
