The memories I have of my Father are plentiful and I can honestly say  he was I man I respected greatly.  Of course growing up I thought he was strict, but I always appreciated his discipline and insight.  Many did not know about his humorous gentle side, but he certainly had his OWN style and definitely did not care if your agreed with him or not.   Here are a few of my most treasured memories :   
Woke me up for school said " It's going on 7 " ; it was 
6:05!  Yes, he was very punctual and all his children were as well.  He wrote romantic poems to my mother and whipped her around the dance floor like a professional.
 I learned how to wash a car spotless - especially picky about the white walls.  
He loved peanut brittle and chocolate covered cherries.
When he cleaned (not very often) He liked to vacuum.  
He was mad when I used his razor.
He always arrived home from work at 5:20 , we ate at 5:30, and he DID NOT chicken.  
Learn how to drive a golf ball from him; he always practice his swing in the backyard.  
He was the best bocce and croquet player in the family :)
He did not drink or smoke and he liked  RootBEER. 

Dad I miss you and I know you are without pain in the best place.  You were built tough like the car you drove. I want to thank you for everything!

So very sorry for the loss of your beloved father and husband. My memories have faded from those days long ago but the instant I saw his picture I knew he was the father of all the Johnson kids a few doors down. My little kid memories only recall playtime with all the kids in the neighborhood but in hindsight I see him the same way I see my father; a tough man, who knew his duty was to his family,
So sorry for the loss of your brothers and sons. It saddens me to hear of this loss also.
You are all in my thoughts. Peace to all.

My father was a dichotomy of contrasts- rough around the edges with a polished, “larger than life” interior, who grew of up poor, in a fatherless home by his mother and grandmother along with his two sisters.    This instilled in Dad a resolute sense of family.   He was a self-taught, intellectual who never really cleaned up his language as much as mom wanted.  He was witty and funny, and we could only laugh at what might come out of Dad’s mouth next. He was extremely articulate and gifted with wisdom & a perspective that made Dad your “Go-to” counselor in times of struggle.   
Predeceased by all three of his sons, I would often overhear him say “GOD has a lot of explaining to do!”   It wasn’t until the last couple of years of his life that this “valley of tears” would bring him to the apostolic faith, one that he resisted most of his life.
My grieving heart asks everyday “How will I live on without you Dad?”   Your powerful strength and confidence made an incredible impression on me and so many others.  I feel so blessed because GOD made such an honorable man MY father.
You will be greatly missed, but I trust where you are, and I couldn’t be happier for you.

                                     Our Fiftieth Golden Anniversary
                                                         March 26, 2005
Fifty years ago today was one of the most important days of our live.s. We had many obstacles in our way but somehow we managed to overcome them.  Through many of he tough times, there was never a doubt in my mind that I had chosend the right person to marry because I knew God helped me make that decision.Through the good times, I saw in you a devoted , loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law.

As we approach our twilight years, and in looking back over the past 50 years I am reminded of how blessed I am to have a husband who made the supreme sacrifice of working the night shift,  running a press for 17 years in a hot  unair conditioned factory, packing your lunch every day, (mostly bologna sandwiches).  Amazing how you still like them. Sacrificing time with your children, sometimes not seeing them until weekends. You never complained because that is the character of the man I married, hardworking, loyal, dependable.  These are the qualities that have kept us together all these years.  I knew I could always count onyou to bring home your paycheck to pay the bills and yet you never asked anything for yourself because you always put your families' needs first. 

The strength you have given me in my lowest moments have only enriched my love for you and in the deepest part of my heart where there was nothing before, there is love for the man God chose for me to spend my life with for it is my belief that we were destined to be together as one and share a beautiful family together.  You have always and will be the only love of my life.  May our love continue to grow as long as we are on this earth together.
