Regina C Milewski of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on August 19, 2022 in Sarasota, Florida at the age of 95. Regina was born on February 23, 1927 in Erie, Pennsylvania to John J and Catherine Groholski Zelazny. Regina met her future husband Frank, at The Polish National Alliance. They were married on June 14, 1950.
Regina had married into the Navy. She was a great Navy wife. They were stationed in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Texas, Tennessee and finally Florida. While her husband was away at sea, she would hold the fort down until he returned. After having three children, Regina began a career as an Executive assistant for Lerner Shops. She dealt with the many store managers to coordinate communication between them and the regional office.
Regina was baptized Roman Catholic and had a devotion to Mary, the Blessed Virgin Mother. The story was told that she prayed a Novena to Mary and met her husband. She attended Mass regularly at St Matthews Catholic Church. All of her children went to St Matthews Catholic School and then attended Bishop Kenny High School.
She graduated high school at St Hedwig’s and got her Associates degree while her children were in high school.
She was a past president of the American Business Women’s Association.
She was an avid golfer and was the President of the Woman’s Golf Club at Cecil Field. She would coordinate golf tournaments to allow the winners to win prizes from sponsors that she would enroll. She played tournaments in Las Vegas and loved playing the one armed bandits. She would always split her winnings with Frank so that they were always winners when they returned home.
One of her fondest memories was going to Walt Disney World in the 70s. We were gifted with a stay at The Contemporary Resort. We can’t count the number of times we went to see the It’s a Small World exhibit. It was always the coolest place to be.
She loved playing cards, painting, cooking Gluten Free before it became popular, crocheting and ceramics.
Regina is survived by her daughters Barbara Ann Zendig, Judith Ann Barringer and Patricia Ann Wilson, and her husband Michael. She is survived by six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband Frank of 69 years and a sister, Irene McClellen.
A Funeral Mass will be held on March 15, 2023 at St Matthews Catholic Church. Burial will be with her husband at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
